We just left as the nurse took him back to get put under. Now the waiting starts. As we get updates from the nurse, we will pass on what we can, but it will be a long wait from here.
Consults with Docs
We’ve spoken to both the anesthesiologist and the surgeon on today’s events. They’ve expanded to three areas of interest, adding a spot between the two original areas of interest to make sure there are no connections between the two missed.
They are estimating 3-4 hours for the procedure, given they are using three lasers.
Thought process is still to go home tomorrow, provided everything goes as expected. We are just waiting for us to be dismissed at this point so he can be taken off to get started.
Just realized…
Two years ago today, we were driving down to Phoenix for his first laser surgery that would take place tomorrow. Weird that it has taken two years to get to this point, but that’s where are.
And Cam is now officially 6’3”
Ugh.
Checking In
Made it to the hospital with no issues this morning but the front desk woman scared when she couldn’t find Cameron on the schedule. But it’s all ironed out. We are waiting for admitting paperwork.
Preparation for 2nd Laser Ablation Surgery
So, Cameron was three days or so shy of not having to take his Covid test, so last Saturday we made a quick turn-and-burn trip to the hospital to do that. Went fine and he’s negative of course.
Today, we made it down to Phoenix again to get ready for the big surgery. As is our tradition, we let Cameron pick dinner wherever he wanted and he chose Mimi’s Cafe.
We’re now at our hotel and chilling after the long trip down. He’s got an 8AM check-in for his 10AM procedure. It should go quickly. They will do a MRI first to calibrate their plan of attack to get to the two areas that the laser will be used on. Then he’ll go to the OR and they’ll make it happen. When he’s out of surgery, he’ll have about a 24-hour recovery period to make sure he’s OK, free of infection, and has all of his normal function (eat, pee, etc.).
Today was a rough day emotionally for everyone. Mandy was a little short and so was Cameron. That got me all riled up too and we ended up having some shouting matches. But it’s all better now and we’re unified going into tomorrow.
God has this. The surgical team has this. It’s out of our control and we have to let everyone do their jobs.
